The story behind the wheel…
Have you ever wondered how the slot machines work? Have you ever tried to figure out how the slots turn just enough to bring you close to the jackpot, but never close enough to win? Then, let us tell you the story behind the wheels that run your luck.
The story starts with Charles Fey, who invented the mechanical slot machine in 1897. The first one had three reels, each having ten symbols. The symbols included spades, horseshoes, diamonds, bells and hearts. The went to the one who could successfully line up three bells. This lead the machine to be named after the bells, called the bell machine.
There was a possibility of 1,000 combinations, out of which only one helped you win the jackpot. This gave the owner a profit of 25%, a good number for those in the business. Soon, the slots evolved and the number of symbols increased to 20, giving the owner an odd of 8,000 combinations. This continued until 1970, when the number of symbols increased further to 22 This gave the owner a maximum of 10,648 combinations. By now, t he maximum number of symbols that can be physically put on a reel was reached.
Then, people tried adding reels, but it never clicked as well with the players. Thus, the slot machine continues to rule the fate of many a player.
